Dueling Pianos Round 2

If you missed it the first time, you won't want to miss it the second time around! "Dueling Pianos" is back at Piggy's on Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 8 p.m. This high-energy show features two piano players taking audience requests, such as school fight songs.

Proceeds benefit the Steuben County United Way. That evening, the agency will be unveiling its new "Men of United Way" calendar. This fun, interactive night is a great way to support the United Way, which funds more than 20 agencies here in Steuben County.

Calling all race fans!

Rapid Raceway has closed its outdoor track for the year, but the indoor track is open and ready to offer hours of entertainment on those cold winter days.

Enjoy racing around the 300-foot banked oval track Saturdays between 4 and 10 p.m. and Sundays between 2 and 6 p.m. Private parties can be booked anytime. A Sunday special allows you to ride all afternoon for $30.

To rent the Sprint cars, you must be at least 16 years old with a valid ID. You must be at least 54 inches tall and 10 years old to rent the go-karts.

Once you're done taking a spin around the track, visit the arcade, where you can play driving and shooting games, Skeeball and redemption games.

Wine for Canines and Felines

Animal lovers are coming together for a great cause to benefit the Steuben County Humane Society.

'Wine for Canines and Felines' is set for Friday, Nov. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Glendarin Hills Golf Club, 3333 Glendarin Way, Angola. The event will feature wine tasting from Gays Hops-N-Schnapps and hors d'oeuvres from Carusos.

Tickets are $50 each and are available at the Humane Shelter, Sutton's Deli, Panache Salon and Gays Hops-N-Schnapps.

Steuben County holiday traditions continue

The calendar still says October, but it's not too early to plan your Christmas shopping strategy. Some people wait until the last minute but many others shop year-round and stash presents away in that secret closet.

Here in Northern Indiana Lakes Country, there are two craft shows in November that can quickly put you in the holiday mood. Fairview Missionary Church, 525 E. 200 N., Angola, hosts its annual gift and craft bazaar Saturday, Nov. 7, beginning at 8 a.m. Shop until 3 p.m. for a variety of crafts and edible delights.

The following Saturday, Nov. 14, the Alpha Iota Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma hosts the 37th annual Boutique and Craft Show. This will be held at St. Anthony's, 700 W. Maumee St., Angola, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is .25 and breakfast and lunch will be served.

Trine hosting free concert


Trine University's jazz bands and university choir will entertain listeners with music in a variety of styles Sunday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. in the University Center’s Fabiani Theatre.

The groups will perform numbers in swing, blues, rock and other music styles by artists such as Mancini and Count Basie. The University Choir will be joined by two bands, the Three O’clock Jazz Band and the Four-thirty Jazz Band.

Trine music director Mark Kays invites the Trine and local communities to join him for this afternoon showcase of the music program. The concert is free.

Caruso's candy class set for Nov. 8

Do you want to add some pizazz to your Christmas menus? Learn to make fudge, apricot nut balls, chocolate walnut creams and sugarplums at a special event at Caruso's on Sunday, Nov. 8, beginning at noon.

Special guest chef Bob Kelty, an Ivy Tech cake and pastry chef, will offer hands-on instructions for making these delectable treats. Lunch and recipes will be included. The cost is $50 per person, with proceeds benefitting the Steuben County Community Foundation Humanities Fund.

Halloween fun abounds

Halloween fun lasts for a full week in Northern Indiana Lakes Country. There is no shortage of activities for kids and adults alike!

The activities begin Saturday, Oct. 24 as the City of Angola sponsors "Halloween Fun" from 7 to 9 p.m. at Commons Park. The night features treats, games and hayrides, along with free pumpkins to the first 100 children.

Angola's downtown "Spooktacular" is Friday, Oct. 30, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the public square. Merchants will be handing out candy to the children.

The City of Angola's trick-or-treat hours are Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sonlight Community Church hosts "Trunk or Treat" from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Don't forget your pets! The Angola Moose Lodge hosts trick-or-treating for cats and dogs Saturday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. A costume contest begins at 6 p.m.

Storytellers LouAnn Homan and Steve Etheridge will perform at Pokagon State Park's C.C.C. Shelter at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Halloween. The "Ghost Tales and Other Stories of the Season" 6:30 p.m. performance is geared toward younger children. The fee is $1 per person, plus the $5 per Indiana vehicle and $7 per out-of-state vehicle fee.

Over in Orland, trick-or-treating takes place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Halloween. Fremont's town hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. The Outlet Shoppes at Fremont hosts trick-or-treating from 5 to 7 p.m. on Halloween.

Fremont's Public Library's "Pumpkin Trail" is set for Friday, Oct. 30 between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The event features trick-or-treating, games, crafts and refreshments, along with storytelling and face painting.

The second annual "Fall Festival" in downtown Hamilton includes trick-or-treating from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. A costume judging contest takes place between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Other fun activities throughout the day include games, crafts, pumpkin painting and a haunted house.

Enjoy the events but don't eat too much candy!
